Part of Social work legislation

Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013

The Act gives people who need care and support more choice and control over how that support is arranged and delivered.

Local authorities must assess a person’s needs and explain the options available to them. The Act also recognises carers and includes measures to support them in their caring role.

Everything in the Act is guided by 4 key principles:

  1. Participation and dignity
  2. Involvement
  3. Informed Choice
  4. Collaboration
