Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2016

The Act was introduced after several reviews and aims to modernise and improve the efficiency of Scotland’s criminal justice system.

It updates police powers, strengthens the rights of suspects, and makes changes to criminal evidence, court procedures, and sentencing.

It also creates the Police Negotiating Board for Scotland to support national arrangements for police pay and conditions.
