Crime and Disorder Act 1998

The Act focuses on preventing crime and disorder.

It created new racially aggravated offences. It removed the old rule that children were presumed unable to commit a crime. It abolished the death penalty for treason and piracy.

It also introduced new orders to manage sex offenders and protect the public and it created Anti-social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs).
