National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990
The Act builds on the National Health Service Act 1977 and replaces the Health Services Act 1976.
It allows the creation of NHS Trusts. It also gives Ministers the power to tell local authorities, individually or as a group, how to carry out their duties.
In addition, it updates several other laws relating to local authorities’ welfare and social services roles.
