Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001
The Act set up national bodies to register and regulate social services in Scotland, including the Scottish Social Services Council and what later became the Care Inspectorate. It requires Ministers, through these bodies, to work out how many social workers and other care staff are needed.
They must also ensure these workers get proper training and that clear professional standards are in place. The overall aim is to improve safety, welfare, and choice for people who use social services.
