Programme governance and assurance
The NSWA programme is governed by robust arrangements to ensure effective oversight, accountability, and delivery. During the development phase, a shadow programme board has been established, comprising Scottish Government directors and senior representatives from HR and Finance. This board provides strategic direction, monitors progress, and assures alignment with national priorities and stakeholder interests.
Upon formal establishment, the NSWA will be led by the National Chief Social Work Adviser (Chief Executive), supported by a senior leadership team and a management advisory board. The Advisory Board will assist the body deliver its functions, to provide strategic advice and support to the Chief Executive, and to offer constructive challenge. Regular meetings with Scottish Ministers, the Advisory Board, and other key groups will provide opportunities to review progress, address risks, and ensure that the NSWA remains accountable for delivery.
The NSWA’s governance arrangements will be reviewed annually to ensure they remain fit for purpose and responsive to changes in the operating environment.
