2.2 National Chief Social Work Adviser
Joanna Macdonald is the Chief Executive of the National Social Work Agency and leads the staff in the National Social Work Agency and a team of professional social work advisers. Joanna also serves as the National Chief Social Work Adviser to Scottish Ministers. This dual appointment is a significant advancement in strengthening social work leadership and collaboration across Scotland.
The National Chief Social Work Adviser has statutory duties, including:
- advising Scottish Ministers on policy relating to social work and the protection of individuals at particular risk of harm
- preparing an annual report for Scottish Ministers on the state of social work services and the social work workforce in Scotland
Angela Latta, as Deputy Chief Executive of the National Social Work Agency and Deputy Chief Social Work Adviser, supports Joanna Macdonald across all aspects of social work in the National Social Work Agency and within the Scottish Government.
