Additional apprentice feedback
Most apprentice feedback aligns closely with the employer themes above. However, a small number of apprentice-specific points add further nuance and should be noted as additional considerations for future delivery. We have provided these here.
Academic skills and writing support
Apprentices specifically requested more support with academic writing and adapting to degree-level study. While employers referenced wider learning resources and support needs, this apprentice feedback points to a more targeted need for early academic skills development.
Library and learning resource navigation
Apprentices asked for clearer guidance on accessing library systems and learning resources. This differs slightly from employer feedback on the cost of books and resources by focusing on confidence and ease of access rather than funding alone.
Residential social work content
A small number of apprentices requested greater focus on residential social work examples or pathways. This was not a prominent employer theme and may reflect the specific practice backgrounds or career interests of some apprentices.
Personal work-life-study balance
Apprentices highlighted the challenge of balancing full-time employment, study and family or personal commitments. Employers recognised operational workload pressures, but apprentices’ feedback adds a more personal perspective on wellbeing, fatigue and managing competing responsibilities.
Detailed online learning design
Employers supported blended and online access, particularly for rural areas, while apprentices provided more specific suggestions on how online learning could be improved, including shorter sessions, more breaks, more interactivity, breakout discussions and regular check-ins.
